It seems like no time at all since we launched our quest to find the best 3D visualization talent that the UK has to offer, but after a month of entry gathering and judging, we’re pleased to announce winners of our 3D Star competition.
Finally a big thanks to everyone who submitted their showreels, blogs, images and design visualization treats to our competition. There were loads of fantastic entries, and it was really enjoyable to sift through so many outstanding examples of 3d visualization and design.

Clothes hangers – no, wait, please come back! – might not be the most interesting topic to kick off our weekly sideways look at design visualization, but stick with us and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by these aeronautically inclined designs by Epicenter Design posted on design(dot)fr:
If, like me, you suffer from ‘tangled cable-itis’, this new product from Blue Lounge will be a godsend. Featured on the Naxmix website, this aesthetically pleasing cable storage box is designed to fit in with the Apple style mindset, as you can no doubt see from the pictures (a mix of actual product shots and a 3D design visualization):
Exciting news for motorheads has been posted on Car Body Design: Mini are set to join the WRC from 2011. Yes, everyone’s favourite tiny car manufacturer is heading back into the wild and wonderful world of rallying, and if this great looking design concept is anything to go by, the car will be a stunner:
And finally, here’s a video demonstrating that the power of Elvis knows no bounds with a 3D visualization tour of Graceland in… Denmark?
I’m sure the King himself would have loved it.

It’s been a little while since my last post, as there’s always things that get in the way. For Autodesk it’s been a busy couple of weeks – Robin has mentioned the Farnborough Air Show which looked amazing, and considering where our office is, we had some of the best seats in the house. But for me, my focus has also been on Siggraph.
If you haven’t heard of Siggraph, it’s an organisation which promotes the generation and distribution of computer graphics in general, and its various techniques. Every year there is a large Siggraph conference in the US, where the industry converges to see the latest technology on show. There is also a huge range of talks and white papers about new and exciting tech.
Graham Bell is an Application Engineer with Autodesk. He's responsible for activity around Maya, Softimage, Motionbuilder, and Mudbox. Graham has over 15 years experience in the Games, Film and TV industries.
For those of you not aware, the Farnborough Air Show has been on this week. Not only has there been some fantastic aerobatics and sound-defying jets, check this out on the Northern Europe MFG blog.
If that was not enough, the creatives at Design FL have been busy developing a new concept for executive travel. This amazing looking aircraft chair is not just about the actual comfort of the occupant, but also the future of airline experiences and the space, purpose and social value and space of the aircraft.
